A short story about us
Chip Sturdevant’s journey to recovery wasn’t a straight line. Like many, he experienced multiple relapses and several stays in treatment centers before finding lasting sobriety at The Last Resort Recovery Center in Central Texas. It was there, surrounded by people who believed in him, that Chip began to rebuild his life with honesty, structure, and community.
He got sober during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, relying on Zoom meetings and the support of others in recovery to stay connected. But the experience also opened his eyes to the risks of disconnection. During that time, several close friends lost their lives to addiction. These losses underscored a painful truth: recovery is urgent, and community is essential.
Out of that understanding, the Turnaround Café Foundation was born. As co-founder and Executive Director, Chip is committed to creating a safe, welcoming space where people in recovery can find purpose, employment, and support. “Recovery takes a village,” he says. “This is ours.”
